Denver Colorado’s New and Improved Transportation System

Metro Denver's Light Rail and Highway System Moving Well

Now that our unusually brutal winter is (almost!) over, the quality of life in the Denver metropolitan area only continues to improve. After years of transportation woes, Denver residents are finally breathing easier this spring. The $1.75 billion T-REX highway and transit project has greatly improved traffic conditions and the new Denver light rail system is absolutely flourishing.

According to an article in today’s Rocky Mountain News, the number of light rail riders this year has already nearly reached RTD’s annual projection, which is amazing since it is only March. Since the November opening of the Southeast Corridor light rail, riders have not only been using the system for commuting purposes, but are also taking advantage of its easy access to the sports and entertainment venues in downtown Denver without the hassles of parking and traffic. The entire light-rail system is averaging 62,523 riders per day, which is much higher than the original projection of 54,000 riders per day.

In addition to the expansion of the light rail system, the recent completion of the five-year highway expansion has greatly improved overall Denver traffic conditions. The headaches are now being alleviated by a much more spacious I-25, which is definitely shortening many commutes.

This enhanced transportation system will likely lead to an improved Denver real estate market since the area is even more attractive for relocation.
