Tips for Lowering Your Air Conditioning Bill in Denver

Looking for Relief from the Hot Summer's High Energy Bills? Follow These Steps.

It has been a hot summer in Denver. Since it is already the end of July, we’ve all gotten one or two monstrous air conditioning bills by now. As an Eco-BrokerTeamCox Realtors is dedicated to the preservation of energy so we wanted to offer you a few tips to lower your energy consumption this summer. And, you might have some extra change left over to offset the rising food prices and high gas prices. Happy Summer!

Tips for Lowering Your Air Conditioning Bill:

  • Set the air conditioning thermostat to the highest temperature possible. Even one degree can make a major difference in your monthly bill. The optimal temperature for saving energy is 78 degrees or higher

  • Cover up your windows during the day with window coverings, especially on the south side of the house that gets the most sun.

  • While planting trees (even small ones) may not help much this summer, you will thank your trees for the extra shade in a few years.

  • If your home is a rather dark color, consider painting it a lighter shade.

  • Give your air conditioner a break by installing a decorative ceiling fan (that should go clockwise in the summer and counter clockwise during the winter). Both Lowe’s and Home Depot have reasonably priced ceiling fans that also look great.

  • Change the filters of your air conditioner at least once a month

  • Caulk around all of the windows and doors.

  • Replace older windows with double-pane glass.

  • Use a programmable thermostat to raise the temperature when no one is home.

The good news is that many of these measures will also help reduce your heating bills once the temperatures begin to drop in a few months. For more information on energy efficient homes, please contact TeamCox Realtors.
