Improving Your Denver Home’s Energy Efficency in Cold Weather
Denverites are a bit shell-shocked this week, as Denver’s weather has changed from being unseasonably warm to downright frigid! Brrrr. Our relocating clients from warmer climates are often not aware of things old timers simply take for granted! If you want to cut utility costs this winter, there are some easy things you can do yourself that will not cost a dime:
1. Lower your thermostat a few degrees and put on a sweater and socks.
2. Replace or wash your furnace filters.
3. Set your water heater temperature to low or about 120 degrees F.
4. Remember to drain your hot water heater every three months to get rid of sediment.
5. Either install weatherstripping or caulk your windrow and doors.
6. Check electrical outlets, ceiling fixtures and ducts for drafts - insulate as needed.
These are all simple measures to keep you toasty this winter. Bonnie Cox is one of the few certified Eco-Brokers in the Denver metro area.
