Denverites are a bit shell-shocked this week, as Denver’s weather has changed from being unseasonably warm to downright frigid! Brrrr. Our relocating clients from warmer climates are often not aware of things old timers simply take for granted! If you want to cut utility costs this winter, there are some easy things you can do yourself that will not cost a dime:
1. Lower your thermostat a few degrees and put on a sweater and socks.
2. Replace or wash your furnace filters.
3. Set your water heater temperature to low or about 120 degrees F.
4. Remember to drain your hot water heater every three months to get rid of sediment.
5. Either install weatherstripping or caulk your windrow and doors.
6. Check electrical outlets, ceiling fixtures and ducts for drafts - insulate as needed.
These are all simple measures to keep you toasty this winter. Bonnie Cox is one of the few certified Eco-Brokers in the Denver metro area. New Report from U-Haul Reveals that Colorado is a Popular Relocation Destination!
If anyone knows where people are moving to and from, it’s U-Haul International!
This past week, U-Haul released the results of its annual, “U-Haul National Migration Trend Report,” and Colorado was ranked at the top! Colorado had the highest growth rate among states with more than 20,000 families moving. How is this figure calculated? It’s simple. According to U-Haul, 7.01 percent more families moved into our state last year than moved out of it. The data were compiled from compiled from U-Haul’s over 1.61 million transactions in 2007. Other high growth states included Oregon, Kentucky, and Virginia.
This good news comes on the heels of several major companies, including ConocoPhillips and VMware, announcing relocation plans to our great state. It’s clear why Colorado, especially the Denver metro area, is becoming an increasingly popular relocation destination. This is no suprise, as Colorado is a very desirable place to live with its diversified economy, appealing climate, and gorgeous scenery. In addition, the Colorado economy and real estate market are both proving to be much more more resilient to the current economic downturn than many other states.

ConocoPhillips Among Diverse Companies Planning Relocations to Denver
The Denver metropolitan area will be adding some new residents in the very near future. Several major companies have announced plans to expand or relocate to Denver area suburbs.
ConocoPhillips recently announced one of the largest real estate transactions in Colorado history. The company plans to operate a global technology center and worldwide training facility out of its newly acquired Louisville property, the site of former Sun Microsoft facility. The center is slated to be fully functional by 2011-2012.
The Rocky Mountain News recently reported that Charles Schwab is considering adding approximately 500-1,000 jobs to the southeast Denver corridor. The expansion, which would require approximately 100,000 square feet of new office space along the southeast office corridor, would have an estimated $50 million impact on the local economy.
And, the good news just keeps on coming. Earlier this week, Renewable Energy Systems Americas, Inc., a leader in the renewable wind energy sector, announced the relocation of its corporate headquarters from Austin, Texas, to Broomfield, Colorado. This move further cements Colorado as an emerging as a leader in the development of renewable energy and alternative resources.

People are moving to Colorful Colorado! The Denver Post recently reported that according to data collected from 2000 through mid-2007, the U.S. Census Bureau has ranked Colorado as the United States’ 8th fastest growing state. In addition, the data reveal that Colorado ranks 10th in the number of new residents. Colorado added 95,267 new residents between mid 2006 and mid 2007.

Our great state offers residents a superior quality of life, gorgeous scenery, and a moderate cost of living that is simply unmatched in other areas.
